Lane Palmisano is an imaginative oil painter enamored with the lush, luminescent properties of the medium. She is a multi-faceted colorist equally enthralled with landscape, figurative and still life genres. Currently, “landscape has captivated me with its myriad color and perpetual movement”.
Lane’s contemporary paintings combine a loose, impasto application using palette knife and brush along with glazing techniques, layering her “Spiritscapes” with delicate veils of paint. This process gives these paintings an unusual texture and shimmering luminosity. Lane’s evocative oil paintings are her personal tribute to the Impressionists… the artists of light. Her paintings are in private and public collections throughout the world.
“When working from one’s imagination, a painting can only be coaxed…eventually you must follow it's life force, be it playful, forceful, or impulsive. Each painting deserves its own voice. I am searching for the eternal healing essence that color can achieve.”
After receiving her BA from Monmouth University and completing advanced painting studies at Old Dominion Univ., at age 22, Lane opened the Yearling Art Gallery in Norfolk, VA. There she began teaching drawing and painting. Soon after she was invited to instruct studio art at Tidewater Community College and Wesleyan College. In 1985 she migrated her studio and instruction to the Torpedo Factory Art Center (TFAC) in Alexandria, VA until 2012.
After 40 years of teaching studio art and 27 vibrant years painting at the TFAC., Lane opened a new studio in Bluffton, SC., just west of Hilton Head Island.
Currently, the Thibault Gallery in Beaufort, SC is representing a portion of Lane’s work. The paintings on this website are available for purchase unless noted otherwise, please contact Lane for details.
Lane has created numerous commission paintings over the course of her art career. Her creative approach to the process invites you realize your vision through her voice and brush. The commission process creates a personal connection to the final painting.
All paintings are oils on deep sided canvases with the sides painted as part of the composition. This presentation gives a finished appearance which does not necessitate framing.
